RUNNING A VIRTUAL RACE WITH ITS YOUR RACE

Congratulations on signing up for a virtual race with ITS YOUR RACE! We want to make sure you have a great experience using the ITS YOUR RACE app. It's important that you read through all of the tips and instructions below to ensure that the app will work properly to track your race.

Download ITS YOUR RACE mobile app, or make sure you have the latest Version 2.5.0

Create an ITS YOUR RACE account using the same email address that you listed under your PARTICIPANT record (check your email confirmation to verify).

Do a quick training run before race day to ensure all tracking settings are working properly. Location in the app settings should be set to ALWAYS ALLOW.

Make sure your phone is fully charged.

This app will allow you to run your virtual race and automatically track your pace, distance and overall time.  The app will recognize the race distance that you registered for and automatically stop your session at the appropriate distance (eg 3.1 miles for a 5K virtual race) and send your results in.  It's the closest thing you can get to running a real race!


Know Before Your Go

If you have an existing ITS YOUR RACE login, it should match the email address that you used to register the PARTICIPANT for the event (this may be different from the BILLING email address).

If you registered more than 1 participant in an order, each participant will need to download the ITS YOUR RACE app and create their own account using the same email address that is listed under their PARTICIPANT record in the event. Check your race registration confirmation email to verify which email address is associated with each participant. See the screenshot to the left to identify the email address that should be used as your login.


Allow Notifications

When you first open the app, you will be asked to allow notifications. Select ALLOW to receive notifications when you use the app to track your virtual race. 


Login or Create an Account

If you have an existing ITS YOUR RACE account, select "I'VE USED IT BEFORE!" and login.

If you registered for your virtual race and you chose to check out as a guest, you will need to create an account with ITS YOUR RACE using the same email address that you used to register yourself as a participant). Click the button that says "IT'S MY FIRST TIME"


Verify Your Race Registration

Tap the "ME" icon and verify that your virtual race is showing up under MY UPCOMING EVENTS.

Note be sure to check the DATE AND TIMES that your virtual event is running. You will only be able to run, walk or ride and post your results during that time period.

test the app! Plan a training run or walk

We want to make sure you have a seamless experience with your virtual race! We HIGHLY recommend taking the app out and doing at least a 0.25 training walk or run before tracking your actual virtual race. Why? You will want to make sure all permissions for location services are turned ON and set to ALWAYS ALLOW. 

  • Once you are logged into the app, go to the TRAINING tab found at the bottom of the screen
  • A popup will appear that says BACKGROUND LOCATION reminding you to ALWAYS ALLOW your location in order for the app to work properly. Tap OK.
  • Tap the button to START TRAINING 
  • A pop-up will appear to ALLOW LOCATION. Once you start walking, a second pop up may appear that says CHANGE TO ALWAYS ALLOW. This is a vital change to allow the app to continue using your location while you are running or walking your entire event.
  • Continue your walk or jog. Stop to check the app after about 2 minutes. If your distance and time are recording properly, your app is ready to be used for your event! 

  • At any time during your training your can slide the PAUSE bar to pause your session. Keep in mind this is to be used for a pause of 15 minutes or less.
  • Once you are finished with your training session, you can SLIDE TO PAUSE your session and then SLIDE TO FINISH to record your distance and time to your training profile.

  • Once finished, you can add photos from your run or walk and SAVE a screenshot of your training to share

Race day

  • When your virtual race day has arrived and you're ready to participate, go to the app, tap the RACES tab and look up the name of your event.
  • Once you are on the event page, go to the TRACKER tab and tap READY FOR MY RACE. 
  • Select the event that you are registered for and tap the START RACING button. Your virtual race event has begun!

  • Select the event that you are registered for and tap the START RACING button. Your virtual race event has begun!
  • Your app will automatically use your GPS location to track your distance and pace. Once you reach the distance that's been set for your virtual race event (for example, 3.1 miles for a 5K), the app will automatically stop your activity and send your results in. You can now upload any photos you took during your event, and those photos will display with your results on ITS YOUR RACE!
